Statement: I grew up drawing. Painting is a newer realization. I was put on this painting path by myself and those around me. I have found that using acrylic paint and masonite or other mediums such as tag markers and office supplies I can execute larger more accurate images. I like to think about times I could never live, or times I can not live any more. So this is what I do.
Slinky nymphs, lithe pixies and gorgeous mermaids are some of the inhabitants of Josh Barry’s altered universe encapsulated in various show themes such as This Beautiful World Is Dying and Organic Monster Technologic Fantasy. They play and gesture, sucking the viewer into their dying world. What is killing their world? Perhaps it is heartache or worse, apathy. The entropic imagery in each work could be an obvious reference to death, but in Barry’s case entropy also references life. The imagery is full of nostalgia for a better time, a better world, or a world better left to the imagination.
